So last Thursday I’m at the bar watching the Eagles lose to the Seahawks, and I came up with an idea for a shot because I saw the Fireball Cinnamon Whiskey and the Southern Comfort Pepper sitting next to each other. So I asked my bartender to mix up this concoction and I gave it shot, no pun intended. It was pretty good! Later on I came up with the idea of mixing it with Absolut Peppar Vodka, so last night while I was at the bar watching football, I asked my bartender to whip a couple up for my friend and I, and it was even better with the peppar in it.

So, I have invented a new shot, I’m calling it a skulldragon shot.

Fireball Cinnamon Whiskey

Southern Comfort Pepper

Absolut Peppar Vodka

Edit: 1-15-2012
Last night I was at the bar and they didn’t have any more Fireball Cinnamon Whiskey because they go through it like water, so my bartender suggested Goldschlager as a replacement and let me tell ya, it tasted nearly identical!

So I got a new laptop on Wednesday October 19, 2011, 11:11am. I got a Compaq Presario CQ62-209CA running Windows 7. It has a 2.2ghz AMD v120 processor with 2gb of ddr3 ram. The next day, ordered 8gb ram on Amazon. The most confusing thing when I first booted up the computer was all this HP software on a Compaq machine. My first thoughts were that somebody had messed up and reinstalled the OS from an HP restore disk since it is a refurb. So shortly after I found Compaq and HP branding on the computer, I Googled it and found out that HP bought Compaq 10 years ago. Where the hell have I been? Anywho, Not a bad little computer though if I say so myself, my biggest complaint would be the location of the keys on the keyboard. It’s rather hard to find the left shift key. I either hit the calculator shortcut key or the back slash (\) key. The touchpad and the 2 buttons definitely suck on it. The touchpad is not sensitive at all and the buttons seem to only want to work about half of the time. One push of the button doesn’t seem to get the job done and I continuously find myself having to push down on it several times just to get the thing to work. I can’t click both buttons at the same time to open in a new window on Chrome either. So instead, I plug in my Logitech M305 Wireless USB Mouse for normal usage. The only other complaint I have is the volume is not loud at all. I expected a lot more from Altec Lansing speakers. I actually need to use the EQ as a preamp to boost the volume levels.

It’s taking me a little bit to get used to Windows 7 coming from XP. I’ve always been one to skip an operating system when they come out. I had 3.1, skipped 3.11. I had 95/98 and I skipped ME. I had XP and I skipped Vista. After all, who the heck has the money to invest in a new OS when they come out every couple years? Anyway, it seems like they just jumbled up everything here on 7. At least on XP it was an easy transition coming from 95/98 and mostly everything was labeled what it was before. It seems like what they did for 7 was dumb the OS down for the average user.

Overall it’s not a bad computer. I’m upgrading from a Dell Inspiron 1501 with a 1.8 Sempron processor and 1.5gb ram running XP.

I’d like to give a special thanks to Computer Renaissance and Market Presence.

My Review, Part II – 11-10-11

So now that I have the laptop up and running optimally, (or at least as good as I can get it), I tried to do some recording with it last weekend. After figuring out the confusing task of separating the built in mic from the mic jack, I finally get some sound coming through the system. Here’s the thing though, there’s a half second delay on Windows 7 that makes recording impossible! I checked all the Windows forums and all I saw was the same copy and paste from all the Microsoft reps claiming it to be a driver issue and 98% of the people with the issue still having the problem even after trying the so called “solution”. Looks like I’m going to be busting out my XP laptop to do some recording. Oh well, I was really looking forward to using this 8 gig of ram on some recording!

After having a smartphone for nearly 3 years now, I’ve been wondering when certain companies (like Samsung for instance) were going to team up and add other/better features to their phones. For example, why don’t cell phone companies team up with Nikon, Canon, or Sony to make a better camera? We’ve all taken pictures with our cell phone cameras and have been disappointed many times with the outcome. Why don’t they team up with Bose or Dolby to create better speakers and/or phone hardware? How many times have you used speaker phone and can barely hear the other person? How about listening to music on your phone with an app like Pandora? It would be nice to actually hear the bass in your music instead of just the midrange and treble frequencies. Why don’t they team up with Garmin or Tom Tom to create a better GPS? Lord knows we’ve all had our phone GPS mess up on numerous occasions!

Not only would you have a better product, but you would have a name brand to back it up with as well. Plus, think about the marketing abilities of having companies team up. It could be big!

So, happy St. Patrick’s Day to everyone out there! I know I really haven’t added much to the blog/portfolio here because I’m not much of a blogger ever since MySpace took a turn for the worse, but I figured I would add a little something something before I go out with my girlfriend tonight and get some green beer!

Yesterday I was reading some news on my phone about AT&T putting a cap on peoples monthly bandwidth limits and one paragraph really piqued my interest and a bit of nostalgia for me:

One of the major fears is that stifling broadband caps will strangle the online economy, which is the only one even sort of working these days. That’s probably not the case, however: Website designers will have a veritable boom phase as companies scramble to reduce their bandwidth footprint, while the more thorough designers can just straight up retire — all they have to do is comb through their archives and sell companies back their own website code from 1997.

Which in itself is very true, and if it does happen, I definitely have a ton of archives to comb through! I still remember the good ‘ol days of 56k, 33.6k, and even 14.4k modems where you would be lucky to get 2-5 kbps and it still took forever to download anything, so one would have to build a website accordingly. Remember the splash pages that used to say ‘low bandwidth users click here’ and ‘for the flash intro click here?’ Let’s hope that the rest of the ISP’s don’t follow suit and restrict bandwidth because that would start putting an end to online gaming such as World of Warcraft, video sites such as YouTube, and would create a general disinterest for the internet. Let’s face it, the average user has no idea what the heck a gigabyte is and no concept on how many megabytes are in one, let alone know how much of their 150gb allowance they are actually going to use. In addition to that, what about all those wifi hotspots that places such as Starbucks or McDonald’s offer their customers or even personal home wifi connections for a large family where you have a handful of people connected? There’s really no way to gauge usage on them unless the user has an idea and logs it… They say the caps will only affect the top 2% of users, but there’s really no way to capitalize off of that and would be only a matter of time until they started capping even more.
